Please and Thank You

Use of Please and Thank you 

To show your good manners, keep in mind –

  • Thanks

Common ways to thank people are as follows:-

(लोगों को धन्यवाद देने के सामान्य तरीके इस प्रकार हैं)

Thanks(धन्यवाद), Thank you(आपको धन्यवाद), Thank you very much (आपको बहुत–बहुत धन्यवाद), Thanks a lot (बहुत धन्यवाद), Many thanks (बहुत धन्यवाद), Thank you, sir(धन्यवाद महाशय)|

Note: i) If you were given something or given importance, always say Thank you.

          ii) “Thank you” is more formal than “Thanks”

  • If someone thanks you for something, you can say: “Welcome”, “Mention not”, “My pleasure”, “It’s ok”, “That’s alright” etc.

    (अगर कोई आपको धन्यवाद करे तब उत्तर दे “Welcome”, “Mention not”, “My pleasure”, “It’s ok”, “That’s alright” etc.)

  • When we buy any goods in the shop, then the shopkeeper is called thank you, in the same way when the shopkeeper gets the money, he also says thank you in his reply.
  • When someone shows us favor or kindness, we use thank you in writing or speaking to praise that person.

(जब कोई हमें favor या kindness दिखाता है तब हम उस व्यक्ति की प्रशंसा करने के लिए या बोलने में thank you का प्रयोग करते हैं |)

Examples: 

Thank you for granting me two days’ leave.

Thank you for giving us such an enjoyable holiday.

Thank you for helping me.

  • To make the request more polite, please is used at the end of the sentence and when the request is accepted, thank you is said to express gratitude.

(Request को और politeबनाने के लिए pleaseप्रयोग वाक्य के अंत में किया जाता है तथा जब आग्रह स्वीकार कर लिया जाता है तब कृतज्ञता व्यक्त करने के लिए thank you कहा जाता है |)

Examples:

Would you pass me the newspaper, please?(The newspaper is passed.)

Thank you.

  • Please
  • If you are asking someone for something, use “Please”, “Kindly”, sort of words.

Examples:

        Please close the door.

        A cup of tea, please.

        Would you please pass the salt?

        Can you go now, please?

  • If the expression of request is in question form, then “please” is often used in the middle of the sentence.

     (अगर request की अभिव्यक्ति question form में हो तो please का प्रयोग प्राय: वाक्य के बीच में होता है |)

Examples: Will you please stop making a noise?

           Will you please refrain from smoking?

  •  “Please” is used to convert a question into a request.

(किसी प्रशन को आग्रह में बदलने के लिए please का प्रयोग किया जाता है|)

Examples:  Can you go now, please?

            Will you pass the pen, please?

  • Yes, Please is used in an accepted answer to an inquiry or invitation.“Yes, Please” means ‘I accept and am grateful’

(किसी enquiry या invitation के स्वीकारात्मक उत्तर में Yes, Please का प्रयोग किया जाता है |)

Examples:

Would you like a cup of tea?

Yes, please.

Will you have another cup of tea?

Yes, please.
