Let’s learn about Greetings and Salutations
Choosing words while greeting someone depends on the age, relation, and position of the person whom you need to greet at time.
Greetings (= अभिवादन, नमस्कार,प्रणाम)
(i) Good morning(शुभ प्रभात)
- जब हम किसी व्यक्ति से सुबह मिलते हैं तब हम उसे Good morning कहते हैं, Good morning के जवाब में अक्सर Good morning ही कहा जाता है |
Examples: Mr. Joshi: Good morning, Doctor.
Dr. Prasad: Good morning, Mr. Joshi.
- विदा लेने के समय – Bye / Take care / See you / Have a nice day
- ‘The first part of the day from the time the sun rises until noon’ को morning माना जाता है |
(ii) Good afternoon(= शुभ अपराह्न)
- Good afternoon (मिलने पर)
- Good afternoon के उत्तर में प्राय: Good afternoon ही कहा जाता है |
Examples: Mr. Joshi: Good afternoon, Mr. Verma.
Mr. Verma: Good afternoon.
- विदा लेने के समय – Bye / Take care / See you / Have a nice day
- ‘The period between midday and sunset’ को afternoon कहा जाता है |
(iii) Good evening (= शुभ संध्या)
- शाम 5 बजे से सोने तक –Good evening कहा जाता है |
Examples: i) Mr. Sinha: Good evening, Mr. Sen.
Mr. Sen: Good evening.
ii) Good evening, Mr. Bose. I am so late.
- विदा लेने के समय –Good night / Bye / Take care / See you
(iv) Good night (= शुभ रात्रि)
- जब रात में कोई घर जा रहा हो या सोने जा रहा हो तब वह Good night कहता है |
Example: Ram: Good night, mom.
- विदा लेने के समय – Good night
Examples: I have to go now. Good night.
Good night, Mr. Sinha, We will meet you tomorrow.
(v) Hello (= हेलो), Hi (= हाय)
- जब हम समान उम्र के परिचित व्यक्ति से मिलते हैं, तब Hello या Hi कहते हैं | किंतु इसका प्रयोग अपने से superiorया unknown व्यक्ति के साथ नहीं करते |
Example: Rahul: Hello, Ram.
Ram: Hello, Rahul.
- फोन से बात करने के समय हम Hello का प्रयोग करते हैं |
Examples: Hello, who is speaking, please?
Hello, may I speak to the principal, please?
